Jack L Hunt
I used to be a frustrated painter, so I picked up a camera to capture scenes for future artwork. I loved painting as a kid, but life got busy, and I stopped for years while driving a truck across the country, creating what I called "windshield art" in my mind. After health issues changed my job, I returned to painting and became interested in web design. During a graphic design course, I visited William Wegman's exhibit at the Wexner Center for the Arts, where I loved his photos combined with oil paintings.
I've never seen myself as a traditional photographer. I focus more on creating unique images than just capturing moments. Many photographers think my work is too painterly, while some painters see me as "just a photographer." That’s fine with me because as an artist my goal is to blur the lines between photography and painting. I sometimes blend my photos with vibrant paints and inks to make mixed media pieces. I sell prints online and at our shop, Foothills Studio, in historic Roscoe Village. Old farms, rustic barns, old trucks, tractors, steam engines and the beautiful landscapes surrounding Ohio’s Amish country are my favorite subjects.
