State of The Union
One of the surprising things that struck me when we first opened our vibrant little shop here in Roscoe Village is how many visitors we see coming through our doors from different zip codes and a variety of states, sometimes even from far-off continents. While that may not seem like a big deal to someone who lives in the bustling metropolis of New York City, here in little old Coshocton, Ohio, we can occasionally fall into a mindset of feeling rather isolated from the rest of the world. So, it genuinely amazes me to see where all these wonderful people come from and to recognize just how much we all share in common, despite the distances that separate us.
As business owners, our goal is to foster a warm and friendly atmosphere that welcomes everyone and encourages sales. In today’s politically charged climate, it seems like arguments are much easier to ignite than meaningful discussions. On one hand, we were taught to practice politeness and to avoid politics or religion, as those subjects can be the quickest ways to derail a friendly conversation. Yet, on the other hand, as artists, business owners, and engaged citizens, we undeniably have thoughts and opinions about the current events unfolding around us. We are very aware of our surroundings and how they shape our lives. Even though we choose not to bring those possibly contentious topics up, not many days go by without them being mentioned in some way. Sometimes, we find it is more effective to make artistic statements instead of vocal ones. After all, isn’t that fundamentally what we’re here for? With that thought in mind, and in an effort to preserve the peaceful vibe of our beloved space, we have chosen to disable comments on this particular post. They say one picture is worth a thousand words and I think that’s true.
