Discovering Foothills Studio: Art, Stories, and a Warm Welcome from Around the World

Welcome to Foothills Studio! Nestled in the charming, historic Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio, we’re lucky to be part of a restored Ohio Erie Canal town that draws travelers from all over. It’s not just locals who come to visit; in fact, we’re frequently surprised by how many people arrive from every corner of the globe. From England to Israel, Japan to Germany, and many more places, we’re always thrilled to welcome folks from all over and share our creative space with them. There’s something about our little part of the world that calls to people, and we’re here to welcome them with open arms and plenty of art to enjoy.

Foothills Studio is a true collaborative space, brought to life by myself, Jack Hunt, along with Lynn Fraelich, Crystal Fuller, and a community of talented friends. Each of us brings our own artistic touch, and it’s truly a team effort! I’m the one behind our website and social media, so I’m excited to be sharing our creative journey here online as well as in person.

I’ll start with my own work—partly because it's easiest to describe what I do, and partly because I’m passionate about photography, painting, and the unique way they come together. Much of my inspiration comes from old farmhouses, barns, churches, one-room schoolhouses, and classic elements of rural life. I also have a natural love for vintage tractors, trucks, trains, and steam engines. These subjects capture a sense of history and nostalgia that I aim to preserve through my art.

A lot of what you’ll see from me are straight photographs of our local area, capturing the natural beauty of the landscape and classic subjects that often serve as the foundation for later creative processes. Many of my pieces go through several transformative stages: after capturing the original photo, I mount it, add an acrylic layer, and begin painting over it with acrylics or transparent alcohol inks. These additions create depth, texture, and sometimes bring a sense of dreamlike atmosphere to the piece. It’s a layered process, and the final step is photographing the finished work for professional prints.

We hope to share a wide sampling of what we’re creating at Foothills, offering a glimpse into the distinct style each artist brings. We believe art is an invitation to connect, and it’s the conversations with visitors that I enjoy the most—hearing their perspectives, and exchanging stories across cultures.

If you’re ever in Roscoe Village, do drop by! We’d love to welcome you to Foothills Studio, share our art, and hopefully inspire you just as much as this place has inspired us.
